The National Weather Service in Gray Maine confirmed on 8/22/09 that an EF-1 tornado with wind speeds between 86 and 110 miles per hour passed over Norway Lake and moved for as far as 15 miles through western Maine with a maximum track width of 700 yards.

The tornado caused confirmed damage on the west shore of Lake Pennesseewassee (a.k.a. Norway Lake) on Mallard Way with trees down on at least two homes with major damage. It then crossed across Goat Island and hit land on Goose Way causing major damage with a tree coming down on a home and many trees downed.
